I have been catching up on Mad Men, and season six has inspired me to get in the kitchen to try something. This happened after two characters go to Los Angeles to meet with the Carnation Company about their Instant Breakfast product.
In the episode, tall glasses of chocolaty milk gleam on the conference table, and I have been thinking about chocolate for breakfast ever since.
So, here’s a recipe that helped take me back to the days when I used to love pouring Carnation Instant Breakfast packets into a glass of milk.
Chocolate for Breakfast
- 1 banana
- 1 orange
- 2 tsp hemp seeds
- 1/2 tsp chia seeds
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 2 tsp cocoa powder
- Put the banana into the food processor. Cut the orange in half and squeeze the juice (over a mesh strainer) into the processor.
- Turn the processor on, and sprinkle in the hemp and chia seeds. Process until the banana is creamy.
- With the processor still on, pour in the coconut milk. Then add the cocoa powder. Process for 20-30 more seconds.
- Taste the smoothie. Add more coconut milk or cocoa powder to taste.
